Let's talk Floristry in all its 'glory'.......

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE creating Instagram friendly content, uploading to my grid bloom after bloom but in reality as Florists we spend a good 90% of our time not rolling around in buckets of flowers, we are either crouched over a laptop ordering via a wholesaler at some ungodly hour, messaging growers asking if those specific coloured flowers we need are going to be flowering in time, doing a rain or sun for our growers, pricking our already hammered hands for the millionth time on chicken wire or on site putting up the mechanics. This is the truth, nothing particularly glamorous in any of the above, but in order to provide the photos that are swooned over, we have to get the basics nailed!

I am forever swirling around ideas as to how to make my clients dreams a reality and how I curate an installation from chicken wire, some cable ties, and water vessels. Our job is to realise your vision, and we go to some serious lengths to achieve this.

It was a family affair today to get this winch system in place for an EPIC wedding I have in the diary. The gang dont come to wedding set ups normally, but they do dragged along occasionally to site visits.

Being self-employed is all I dreamed it would be, but damn it can be a juggling act!!

This wedding really will be one to smash all over social 😆😉

An April wedding filled with seasonal flowers, soft peach tones and some pops of burnt and dusty orange hues.

It was such a joy to work on this brief. When talking flowers and style Rachel was super relaxed, it filled me with so many good vibes, she gave an idea of what she wanted but was chilled and happy to go with 'the flow' and what was seasonally available - Dreamy client!

Throwing my hands up.... I admit it I have been pretty lax in being present on social media.... However I have been present in my actual life and also behind the scenes.

I have some epic followers and hugely support clients who totally understand that life is mental currently. You are my tribe and your understanding is beyond appreciated.

I am ploughing through enquiries for 2024 and trying to ensure I provide detailed and highly comprehensive quotes. I can't whip them up in 20 minutes, they take brain power (what little I have left from raising Eli the hooligan) and quite often researching into seasonality, growers availability, geographical logistics, juggling multiple events to name a few. Oh and a girl got to eat and sleep!

There is also some exciting freelancing I'm getting involved in over the next couple of months. Mum's the word but honestly I'm pumped.

Making sure you fit as a client and supplier, I think, is pretty critical when it comes to planning your wedding.

There is no question that budget, locality, and availability are, of course, fundamental points, but you should trust and like your suppliers.

Having never walked down the aisle myself, I can not give any first-hand experience, but I have been a bridesmaid and helped where I can to organise the big day! One thing I have witnessed is that if the bride and supplier don't gel, it really can cause anxiety and stress (on both sides) and well just makes everyone nervous.

You should have complete faith in your supplier. Budget on the whole can be worked around, and I'm sure other parameters can be overcome, but compatability is a must.

Don't you want to feel your Florist just gets you, and once the arrangements are agreed upon, monies paid, etc, you can rest easy knowing 'they totally got it in hand'

Do get in touch if you're getting hitched in 2024 and want to discuss your big day. I want to be the 'totally got this covered' supplier for your wedding.

I'm Bex Walker, 32, one woman band Florist, mum to a 6 month old little lad called Eli and fur child Rusty. Partner of 10 years to Sam and on the side I love gardening, growing what I love to eat and a big family person.

I had a career in the property industry for nearly 10 years before deciding to pursue my passion to work in the creative world. Combining my artistic streak and love for flowers I went and trained at the amazing @tallulahroseflowerschool in 2019. Fast forward and I am now a wedding and events Florist. Working with clients and venues that I dreamt of when I started out!

I love what I do! I get to work with the most awesome medium, create individual arrangements, work with epic people throughout the industry and I am lucky enough to do this alongside raising my family.

Button holes... They do not need to be that traditional single rose with a sprig of foliage... I like to gather a mini collection of the bridal flowers and make a teeny tiny bouquet.

They are super time consuming and fiddly. They have to be perfect and detailed.

This rustic and asymmetrical bouquet was not just about colour but also texture. I bang on about 'texture', but it gives interest to an arrangement. Mixing soft roses with structured seed heads and even the odd blackberry fruit provides depth and individuality.

There is only one thing better than a bride looking at her bouquet for the first time, the look of delight when she looks at it the second time and takes in all the different elements and hidden goodies that it offers.

Once the I do's were said and the ceremony was over they were then moved and used to decorate the reception..... I have this vision of two large moving foliage poles with only groomens feet visible underneath, totally a double take moment if you saw it! 😂

I am dreaming of the selection of flowers, foliage and bold pops of colour that are on the horizon.

This top table arrangement is full of lots of wild foliage and packed with texture.

We went heavier on the greenery and used delicate and twiddly stems to give it the umph.

It gives creative freedom which is awesome but also means your work has to be on point and totally smash a brief. There is nowhere to hide!

Disco balls and flowers have never been a traditional combo that springs to mind, but equally, I loved the finished product.

Thank god for a winch system!

On a side note, I was 36 weeks pregnant when I completed this wedding, and it was late summer, so I resembled a hot and sweaty beach ball by the end! Good Times! 😆

Spring....

I can not wait to work on my first wedding on 1st April. It will include all the fragrance flowers that come with the first blooms of the year.

Is it extra special because it is my favourite season or because it is my first wedding since the end of September 2022? Either way I am pumped to swap dancing vegetables (if you know you know 🤯) for snips and water buckets for a few hours.

I'M BACK!

After just over four months of being fully submerged in our little Wildling, I'm back in the land of flowers.

A few things will be changing with how I work and the services I offer. After much consideration and deliberation I have made the decision to not currently offer gift bouquets and to focus on events and Weddings! I might come back to subscriptions and bouquets but life is different now and I want to make sure I am available and present for my family! I'm sure all you Mumma Bears and dad's who run their own business get this!

Please do get in touch if you are planning a late 2023 weddings as I have some availability for September and October and my calendar is open for 2024.

Colour.... It is a marmite situation! Hands up, I am a mega fan! With all that Mother Nature gives us, is it not our duty to use it and celebrate all the hues, shades and contrasting tones!

Whites, greens and pastel tones look so elegant, there is no denying it but this picture is all about colour and the vibrancy that compliment the bride and grooms sense of fun!

You smashed it Mr and Mrs Rance and I was so blessed to be given free rein, no parameters, no 'No's' just pure unedited freedom! For that I thank you.

When cards arrive thanking you for the work you put in and the extra effort is appreciated it makes it all totally worth while.

Life has taken a 'slightly' 🥴😉 different direction recently, as we have grown by one little person, but to receive a hand written card in the post makes my professional heart burst, it also reminds me of the different hats I wear!

Being a new mum is pretty much all consuming, but at 3am (sat rocking an unsettled dude) I take great comfort in looking at this on my shelf, just makes me smile!
